Overview


Lead Designer is one of the most crucial role in Product Development. They plays a central part in communicating with all other member and stakeholder. Because our end product is a Interactive Experience, Lead Designer became even more important to deliver a High Quality Product.

Lead Programmer have 5 areas of responsibilities :

  • Product Assessment : Analyze current product state and action needed to improve it (Product Owner)
  • Process Establishment : Establish Project Standard and Pipeline (Producer)
  • Lead Coordination : Coordinate information with Peer Member from other role (Peer Lead)
  • Team Supervision : Delegate work to Subordinate and ensure their well-being (Designer Team)
  • Director Alignment : Align information to Studio Director and apply FSKU Standard (Studio Director)

Key Responsibility

People

1. Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor the design team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Work closely with producers, artists, programmers, and writers to ensure cohesive game design implementation.
  • Provide feedback and direction to ensure quality and consistency in all design elements.

2. Representation & Advocacy

  • Represent the design team in high-level meetings and discussions.
  • Act as an advocate for design considerations in business and technical decision-making.
  • Engage with the gaming community to promote the game and gather valuable insights.

Product

1. Vision & Direction

  • Helping define and maintain the creative vision of the game, ensuring it aligns with the studio’s goals and market expectations.
  • Communicate the game’s vision clearly to the development team, stakeholders, and executives.
  • Maintain consistency in design across all aspects of the game, from mechanics to aesthetics.

2. Game Design & Mechanics

  • Oversee the creation and refinement of gameplay systems, mechanics, and core loops.
  • Ensure game balance, pacing, and progression are engaging and meet player expectations.
  • Conduct playtests and iterate on designs based on player feedback and analytics.

3. Player Experience & Market Awareness

  • Advocate for player experience, ensuring gameplay is intuitive, fun, and rewarding.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, competitor products, and emerging technologies.
  • Integrate player feedback and data-driven insights into game improvements.

4. Business & Monetization Strategy

  • Work with business and marketing teams to align game design with monetization strategies where applicable.
  • Ensure monetization elements (if present) are ethical, engaging, and balanced.

5. Innovation & Creativity

  • Push the boundaries of game design by encouraging innovation and experimentation.
  • Explore new gameplay mechanics, technologies, and storytelling techniques.
  • Foster an environment where creativity thrives within the design team.
  • Please notes that the innovation part should be no more then 20% of all game design. This prevent designer to gamble all of the success of the game from innovation.

Process

1. Documentation & Communication

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including game design documents (GDDs) and feature specifications.
  • Present design concepts and progress updates to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all documentation is clear, concise, and accessible to all team members.

2. Production & Project Management

  • Work with production teams to establish realistic timelines and milestones for design deliverables.
  • Ensure design goals are met within the constraints of budget and development resources.
  • Prioritize tasks and features based on project needs and deadlines.

3. Quality Assurance & Iteration

  • Collaborate with QA teams to identify and resolve design-related issues.
  • Analyze feedback from internal and external playtests to improve gameplay.
  • Iterate on game features based on testing, feedback, and design goals.

By following these guidelines, a Lead Designer can effectively contribute to the success of the game and the studio while fostering a strong, creative, and collaborative team environment.
